| So I've had two days of school and it's been interesting. I've had all
three of my seminars once: Professional Seminar, Case Tutorial and
Field Seminar. I've been excited, nervous and sometimes confused. Every professor has told us that's normal and that we should expect to feel rather lost over the next several weeks, because the program isn't designed as an academic program, but as professional training.
I'm excited about my field placement. I'm in a multilanguage
initiative, so all the people in my field seminar are being placed in
three schools that have a high percentage of children who are
multilingual and english is usually their second language. And I don't
have to speak a second language, so there hasn't been a mistake ^_^. I
know what school I'll be in and what community work placement for the
second half of the semester. All of our "CW's" are with adults who are
learning english, so that we can have a better understanding of the
experience at home for these children. The locations are good
too, both placements are two blocks from my work, so I know I can get
there easily. Today I have a case study class at the library. I think
we'll be introduced to the Education library with a tour and maybe an
information session on research. I've got lots of work to do already and I'm moving this weekend.
Next week is a full immersion in our field placement. Our task is to observe, find an artifact of learning to bring back with us, and a group project with the other student's at our school mapping how the school is structured, how students interact, etc.

| Ryan's been in town for a week on his summer vacation. We're leaving Monday night for a week in Moncton. But we'll be staying at the beach in Shediac. Sun screen and novels, here I come. | | |
| This weekend was my 3 day weekend because I worked Saturday on the May long weekend. I'm tired from all the running around I've been doing and I'm looking forward to having some down time.
Friday I got up at 8am for a day full of appointments: eye doctor,
bank, hair. Results: sample contacts are on order, I am now the proud
owner of the safety deposit box and I feel fabulous with a new hair cut
and highlights. Also saw the Da Vinci Code with a friend. I liked it. If you havne't read the book don't
worry about reading it first, just go see it and read the book
in a year when you'll have forgotten much about the movie.
Saturday: Got up around 9:30 and hung out/checked email/ate breakfast
until it was time to get ready to go the library for the last meeting this year with my 8 year old reading buddy. It was cold, around 5
degrees, and raining. I left the library to catch the bus to Bowness
park for a picnic with people from work. I missed the bus, so I stopped
at McDonald's for some lunch to get me through until the catered Indian
dinner came around 6. My double cheeseburger and fries actually weren't
gross, which was a nice treat. I arrived at the park at 4 o'clock and
I'm very glad I dressed for the weather complete with long underwear
and gloves, because I was cold. Those of us playing soccer were fine,
but I'm not into sports that involve teams and balls that will likely hit me in the face or chest, so I hung out by the bon fire. I tried Indian food for the
first time and I LOVE butter chicken, it was delicious. Afterwards I
went over to my friend's house and we watched The Producers. It
was Super campy and funny. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes musical theatre. I got home around
midnight.
Sunday: So far today I slept in, I'm doing laundry, and plan to start
cleaning for my new roommate who moves in on Thursday. High priority
tasks: clean the fridge/kitchen and the bathroom. Vaccuming can wait until a week night.

| So it's 3:45am and I've been up since 3am
because my roommate and his friend came home from the bar or where ever they
were. Now they're just murmuring, but before he was talking at a normal voices
and then playing music in his room.... too bad now I'm totally awake. Fun.
*sigh*
This amongst the week of my roommate telling me at 9pm on the last night of the
month that he is moving out in 30 days when we'd agreed to give each other 60
days notice so the other person could have time to decide whether to stay or go
before having to give the landlord 30 days notice before moving out. Even a
week's notice that he was considering moving would have been appreciated.
I've found someone to move in for 4 months through an acquaintance. Which will
allow me some time to see if I can afford my own place, perhaps financed
through a private student line of credit in addition to my government student
loans. I'm starting to think that it's worth it at the age of 27 with only two
years of school ahead of me. It would suck to be in more debt when I'm done
school, especially since I took 7 calendar years to complete school due to
working to keep out of debt... But I'm not sure I can handle the
annoyances/stress of dealing with a roommate any more.
I went to a BBQ last night and this woman at the party was talking about these
running shoes she bought for her 15 month old son that were "only"
$40. My friend laughed at the look on my face in reaction to that statement. It
sounded like they were some desirable brand of skate shoes that I've never
heard of from Source. He was also wearing a Source baby hoodie, which was cute
and hopefully not $40. I hope all the kid's shoes aren't $40, but hey, it's not
my budget.
Pi, my cat, hopped up on the bed and is sleeping on a pillow with her paw
stretched out over the edge. awww, cute. (3:57pm, can still hear my roommate
talking). Earlier, before they went out, I walked by his room to the kitchen.
My roommate had been playing, his friend writing something and I hear his
friend say, "No, don't stop [playing], that was really inspiring." Is
it mean that I snickered when I got to the kitchen because it was totally
cheesy?
Tomorrow I'm meeting a friend for brunch at 11:30, then to work to work some OT
(yay time and a half!). I'm going to bank it for vacation days. Pi started
purring, she's happy.
My roommate has finally stopped talking, yay (4:05am). Maybe I should start playing
music and talking at a volume that would wake someone up from a dead sleep.
Just a little bitter from being woken up at 3am. When he was talking loud he
made some comment about how everyone else our age is out partying it up on a
Saturday night. I'm really not sure if he was talking about me, but funny how
he doesn't say that on the occasions when he goes to bed at 9pm, let alone four
in the morning. Only 3 & 1/2 more weeks. | | |
| Happy Thanks Giving everyone!
Yesterday I spent the day with Ryan's family in Standard, AB to
celebrate. Good people, good food, good time. What more could you want?
It's too bad Ryan couldn't be there, he's hitting the books
prepairing for his finals. But, he'll be home on Oct 21st for a whole
10 days. I can't wait.
I haven't bought the premium xanga, so go to my yahoo photos to see pictures:
